A Classic Yoyo, Rebuilt For Modern Play

The Ex 2 is the first bimetal from Modern Yoyos. Its story starts with the original Ex! released a decade ago by Axis. Developed with Axis founder James Reed, the Ex 2 preserves the original’s profile, then re-engineers its width, hub, and weight distribution around modern competition play.

Outer-Ring Performance

The original Ex used an inner-ring bimetal construction. The Ex 2 moves to an outer-ring construction, pairing 304 stainless steel rims with a 7075 aluminum body. An undercut beneath the rims extends them to the absolute edge of the yoyo’s width, concentrating mass where it creates greater stability during horizontal play.

Wide Without Going Extreme

At 53.5 mm wide, the Ex 2 provides a forgiving catch zone without crossing into extreme-width territory. The result is a 66.35 g yoyo that stays composed through long, demanding combinations. It is powerful without feeling sluggish, and stable without sacrificing agility.

Fully Bead Blasted

The entire exterior is bead blasted, including the stainless steel rims, a detail rarely seen on bimetals. This low-friction finish helps preserve spin when the yoyo brushes against your hand during chopsticks and other contact-heavy tricks. Inside, the gap is polished to reduce string friction during fast, dense, and horizontal play.

A Gap Tuned To You

Different string thicknesses and trick densities call for different gap widths. The Ex 2 starts with a 4.45 mm gap and includes two 0.075 mm stainless steel shims that let you expand it to 4.525 mm or 4.60 mm, giving thicker strings and dense, multilayered tricks more room to stay snag-free.

Hollywood Pads With Proven Results

The Ex 2 comes installed with clear Shore 60 Hollywood Pads. In 2026, the US National Champions in 3A, 4A, and 5A all won gold using Hollywood Pads.

All Six Original Colors

The Ex 2 returns in all six original colors: black, blue, green, pink, purple, and red.

The Original Artwork Returns

Each yoyo includes a sticker pack featuring the “Ex!” logo sticker designed by Christian Magpayo and six color-coordinated Paul Escolar art stickers from the original Ex.

Honoring Paul Escolar

Paul Escolar was a godfather of yoyoing whose foundational trick inventions still shape modern play. His artwork is part of what made the original Ex! special, and it remains part of the Ex 2.
